It’s great news for fans of St. Denis Medical. The series has been renewed for a second season by NBC.
The news is arguably unsurprising, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. We love hearing about renewals, especially when it comes to a series that has performed well in the ratings and we were expecting it. It’s even better as the news comes in just four episodes into the freshman series, ahead of the winter premiere tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Arguably, NBC gave the series a good push with the timeslot. It is the first show of the night on Tuesdays, and that is a great family-friendly time for comedy shows. Night Court season 3 follows the series, and while that show hasn’t performed as well in the linear ratings, we’re still expecting a renewal.
Why St. Denis Medical season 2 isn’t too surprising
The linear ratings have been excellent for this new comedy series. We went into the series knowing that NBC had a lot of high hopes about the show, adding an extra five episodes to the first season order back in June, before St. Denis Medical even premiered on NBC!
It’s become the No. 1 new show on the network, and even across the broadcast networks, according to Deadline. After initially premiering well, the series saw an 85% viewership increase across the first seven days. It managed to retain 82% of its audience for the second episode, which can be rare for new shows.
What is St. Denis Medical about?
The series is perfect for fans of shows like The Office and Parks and Recreation. It offers a mockumentary style of filming, following the hospital staff in an underfunded and understaffed hospital in Oregon. The staff just want the best for their patients, but they are slowly descending into madness due to the shortages and issues, especially with some of the decisions coming from up top.
Allison Tolman is certainly one of the more recognizable cast members in the series. Fans can also see Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, and Josh Lawson among the outstanding cast.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch St. Denis Medical, making tonight the night to tune in. The show returns tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 8/7c, and episodes air each Tuesday on NBC. You can catch up on the series on Peacock.
