After a long winter hiatus, SWAT is back on CBS Friday, Jan. 31. Season 8 has been nonstop since it began and we’re excited to finally be back in action with Hondo and the rest of 20-Squad. Now that we’re back on schedule, what can we expect for the episode?

To refresh your memory, the midseason finale of season 8 jumpstarted an arc that saw Devin Gamble’s father try to get in touch with her. Despite wanting nothing to do with him, she decided to go see him.

As it turned out, he had information that someone on her team was in danger. Even though there was no indication of which one it could be, the fact that Hondo was the last team member we saw means it may be him who is being targeted by an unknown individual.

What to expect with the new episode of SWAT on Jan. 31

As per the synopsis for the episode, which is titled “Open Season,” the team works to catch a “dangerous enemy” who is looking for revenge against somebody on the team. If it is Hondo who the person is after, the person responsible may use one of the others to get to him. Knowing Hondo, he won’t want anyone in danger and will do whatever it takes to catch the guy himself.

There is another smaller plot arc we know about thanks to the synopsis. We will see more of Deacon and Tan as they once again bicker over the changes Tan has made to the SWAT Academy.

It does appear that Deacon will have a hard time seeing Tan run it differently than he used to. Since the team will need to work together in this episode, hopefully, it will help them to be able to work together to come to an understanding of how to work together on overcoming their differences.

Another exciting part about this episode is that it marks the show’s 150th to date! Shemar Moore posted an image from “Open Season” to commemorate the milestone event.

The episode airs on Friday, Jan. 31 on CBS at 10/9c. It will be available for streaming the next day on Paramount+. As far as we know, the remainder of the season should be on schedule, unless the brief stall in production due to the Los Angeles wildfires pushed any episodes back. We will keep you updated so you know when new episodes will air..
