The 2025-26 TV season is nearly in the books, and there is only one broadcast drama waiting to learn its fate: NBC’s The Hunting Party.

In a surprising move, NBC has not yet made a decision about the future of the show, which is rare, as most shows tend to learn their fate before the annual upfront presentations to advertisers. Networks tend to lock in their schedules ahead of the upfronts to give advertisers a clear look at what will be coming in the fall and a hint of what shows will be arriving at midseason.

Usually, when a show is not renewed before the upfront presentations, it’s a sign that the show is likely going to be canceled, which is why The Hunting Party fans have been worried season 3 might not happen. While we can’t rule out the possibility that NBC won’t cancel the show, the latest renewal update is giving us hope that the series might live to fight another day!

According to Matt’s Inside Line, the current consensus on The Hunting Party season 3 is that things are “up in the air.” Now, this might not seem like the best update, but it’s actually an incredibly promising update in that it indicates NBC is still in conversation about renewing the show. As Matt Webb Mitovich points out, this status update from insiders is “a far better status than probably canceled,” hinting that there is still hope for a renewal.

As Inside Line points out, the show has been performing well on Peacock and drawing strong viewership numbers on Netflix since hitting the streaming service. Given the popularity of the show on Netflix, there is a chance that NBC could choose to give the show another season.

The fact that NBC has yet to cancel the series suggests that conversations are still ongoing and that the network is having serious discussions about whether to greenlight another season. If NBC was ready to throw in the towel, the show likely would have been canceled already like fellow NBC series Brilliant Minds and Stumble

While NBC has a handful of new series on the schedule for the upcoming season, the door remains open for The Hunting Party to return for a shortened season at midseason. While not the most ideal, getting 10 episodes of the show would be better than it ending abruptly, and plenty of hit streaming shows produce smaller seasons. New episodes are still new episodes, so hopefully NBC will opt to renew the show, and we’ll see a new season of The Hunting Party back on the schedule in 2027.
