Family Guy will take over The Simpsonstimeslot in February 2025. What does that mean for The Simpsons season 36. FOX has an update.

When FOX announced the premiere date for Family Guy season 23, it wasn’t the date that stuck out. For many, it was the time. You see, the animated comedy series is going to take over the first timeslot of Sunday night, which has been held by The Simpsons for the longest time.

Fans of The Simpsons want to know what this means for the return of its series. Well, there is a return date, and it’s not too long. The wait could turn out to be a good thing.

The Simpsons season 36 returns in March 2025

We will have to wait until March. The Simpsons season 36 will return on March 30, 2025, according to TVLine. It will get its usual timeslot back, and Family Guy will then move to the 8:30 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.

It does seem a little confusing at first. However, the move is to continue to give the rest of Sunday’s fare a little push. Family Guy is another beloved and long-running animated comedy series. Starting the night off while Grimsburg season 2 premieres is a great move.

The bad news for Grimsburg fans is that the series will go off the air after just a handful of episodes. There isn’t a return date for the rest of season 2 yet. What about Universal Basic Guys? That series wrapped its first season in December and it has been renewed for a second season.

Why this move is good for The Simpsons fans

Why would a long wait now be good for The Simpsons fans? Well, it’s all linked to the number of weeks left until the middle of May. That’s when the networks like to air their season finales, and there are usually more weeks than episodes available.

This often means that networks start to have inconsistent schedules. There are breaks here and there, and it makes it hard to follow when new episodes will air. With a longer break now, The Simpsons can air the rest of its episodes in one consistent straight until May, which is better for all of us.

The Simpsons season 36 returns on Sunday, March 30 at 8/7c on FOX.
