Tracker season 4 episode 3 recap: Colter searches for a missing wife

From making dinner plans and finding parts for his dad's truck to solving cases, episode 3 had a little of everything. We even got a little glimpse of Reenie's lack of office decisions and past love life.

CBS's Sunday night lineup was a few minutes behind as I waited for Tracker's new episode. Once it started, Colter didn't slow down. From making dinner plans and finding parts for his dad's truck to solving cases, episode 3 had a little of everything. We even got a little glimpse of Reenie's lack of office decisions and past love life. Despite the shift in format, season 4 is shaping up nicely as they find their flow.

Colter returns to a business and tells the workers the parts he got worked well. He's looking for something, and it requires a finder's fee, just like what he does for work. Turns out, he's driving a new truck. The daughter jokes about her dad having a lot of theories and needing to get away, so she and Colter go into the junkyard to find parts. He looks at all the old trucks. As he's looking, she asks him to check out a local spot with her.

With the parts secured, he gets a call from Randy. He's still not in a new office with Reenie because she's picky. He does have a job for him: a wife left her husband in the middle of nowhere; she disappeared. The office Reenie and Mel looked at was a loss, and Mel covers the next tour while Randy sets off to help out Colter from the temporary office.

Colter arrives in Hopper, TX, at a diner to meet up with the husband, Logan, and wife, Britt. What happened the next day: Husband and wife, Logan and Britt, drive on a dark road as they fight about why the woman is upset. She takes his phone and chunks it out the window for texting Sherrie. She stops, and he gets out of the car, leaving him stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Logan takes the blame for the argument and says he's not having an affair. The texts were from a coworker, not someone from their high school reunion. When she didn't come back after he found his phone, the home security didn't pick her up, and no one else has heard from her. It's not possible she just left; they normally make up. The police weren't any help, so he's asking Colter. He has no idea what happened and doesn't know what to do. Colter promises to do everything he can for her.

They go back to where she dropped him off before she headed north alone. They pull off on the side of the road and look around for any clues, but the husband has been up and down the road and nothing has come up. This could be a good spot for her to pull off and turn around. There are tire tracks and tempered glass in the dirt. It's possible someone else was there, broke her window, and took her and the car. Colter finds boot prints and blood to add to the theory.

Randy confirms Britt’s phone and car are offline, but the last ping was in a town not far from them. Colter and Logan head that way to scope out the place. As soon as they pull in, they find Britt's phone in the parking lot with the car’s GPS fuse cut out.

Turns out the business, a pharmacy, had a break-in, and the cameras caught something. The locals are suspicious that the disappearance has anything to do with their situation. They say the people broke in and stole first-aid stuff. She worries his wife was into some bad stuff like the men who broke in. A taco truck nearby has a dash cam that Randy hacks into and comes up with footage from midnight. Logan spots Britt with an unknown guy; it is too dark to see his face, but his shirt logo gives them a clue.

Colter tells Logan to stay there, call the sheriff, and tell him his wife has been kidnapped and is being held hostage. We get a glimpse of Britt being held at gunpoint in the desert as he has her bury a duffel bag. He still needs her help because a man is looking for him and will kill anyone in his way. After he helps her, he'll let her go.

Colter goes back to the place where the tire tracks are and walks deeper into the desert. He finds more blood spots as he nears the rocks and continues to follow them to two trucks. In the red truck, the window is smashed, with a man dead in the driver's seat. Then another man lies dead on the ground. Colter finds a photo in the other truck and snaps a picture of it. He cuts into a bag of corn in the back of the blue truck but finds most likely cocaine stuffed in it.

He links up with the sheriff and doesn't seem to understand why this scene links to Britt's disappearance. Colter continues to explain how he's hit a dead end after finding this drug scene. All the wounds are from a rifle, meaning someone was on higher ground waiting to crash the party. Got three shots off, only killing two and wounding the guy who kidnapped Britt. Although the sheriff understands, he doesn't seem to be keen on having Colter poking around to solve their connected cases.

Britt tries to reach for something, but the guy instantly wakes up. He reminds her not to do anything stupid. He takes medicine for his pain and has his doctor treat his wound. I'm surprised he actually wants to know why she was alone on an empty road late at night. Whatever keeps her alive, I'm all for. She really needs to tread lightly as she asks her own questions.

The sheriff and deputy promise to get him anything he can use as soon as they have it. They also want to know if he gets a lead on Britt. Randy confirms the guy's name, Cyrus, and address. Colter arrives at the address and secures the cabin. Then, he sees Britt's car by another house and runs over. Cyrus grabs Britt and starts shooting Colter. He begs him to let Britt go, and as he drags her outside, the deputy comes out of nowhere and shoots the guy. No matter if it was odd or not, Britt is safe, and another thing is met with the drug situation.

Unfortunately, Britt's car is evidence, and the deputy takes him back to the station. Colter is suspicious as the lead sheriff thanks him for helping them out on the case. He calls Randy because he doesn't know who he can trust and thinks the deputy is caught up in this since he had Britt, who knows where the money duffel bag is. Logan's phone is heading into the desert, and Colter heads that way. Colter finds Logan hurt and sends help on the way, before he runs in the direction of Britt.

The deputy pulls out the duffel bag and knows all he has to do is get across the border. But he has to take care of Britt first by shooting her as she runs away. It alerts Colter, who comes running up the hill. Taking on gunfire, he rolls and falls to the ground with a bloody gash in his head. He plays dead and gets a shot on the deputy. He puts his boot on his back to hold him down and cuff him. Colter gets to Britt, who is worried about her husband, but an ambulance is on the way.

Reenie runs into Adam, and she doesn't seem very comfortable talking to him. He apologizes to her for being a jerk before she walks away. She tries to turn him down because she's not convinced he's changed and wants to keep things professional. They aren't kids anymore.

Colter apologizes to the lead sheriff for not letting him know what he was doing. But he admits he should have seen the dirty deputy for what he was. The deputy has a lot to explain. Colter ends his case by making dinner plans, as the bench seat parts are going to take a little longer to come in.
