The start of January sees the return of top shows and the premiere of new ones. Tonight is no different. Here’s a look at everything airing on broadcast TV tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 8.

A lot of networks are returning to normal this week. Even CBS has some new episodes of TV shows, with a return to the game show/reality TV block on Wednesday nights. It’s time to take a look at what’s on to make sure you know what you will watch live and what you’ll put on record.

Shifting Gears, One Chicago lineup, and more

Let’s start with the new series that’s arriving on ABC tonight. Tim Allen is back, and we’ll see him joined by Kat Dennings in Shifting Gears. The series follows a dad who invites his estranged daughter and her kids to move in with him when she lands hard in life. It’s time for them to find their way back to a positive relationship, while he also tries to help his daughter get back on her feet.

If you’re in the mood for drama instead of a comedy, then you’ll want to turn to NBC. The entire One Chicago lineup is back, starting with Chicago Med. This episode will pick up off that shocking cliffhanger in the fall finale. Dr. Goodwin has been stabbed, but there’s a chance that she can be saved. Can Archer get back to her in time?

Meanwhile, Cruz has to deal with the past threatening to come back to haunt him in Chicago Fire. We’re heading back to events from the first season, which saw him choose to leave someone trapped in a fire. He believed he was the only one to know about this, but it turns out that someone else knows and they want revenge.

It was a big week in the NFL as the regular season came to an end. The Detroit Lions became the No. 1 seed in its division, while the Kansas City Chiefs put up all their reserves in their last game of the season in a strategic play against the Denver Broncos. Inside the NFL takes us inside some of those decisions and other games throughout Week 18.
