Watson gets a special premiere date (but when's its regular slot?)

CBS will bring a new take on Dr. Watson's story in its new series. Watson will get a special premiere, but you'll need to keep the regular time slot in mind.

Morris Chestnut fans will be happy to hear that he’s leading a new series. The CBS series Watson arrives in January 2025.

As it’s a new series, it’s not that surprising to see that CBS is giving it a special timeslot for its premiere. This happened with Tracker and Matlock, and both shows saw some great results because of that. They were both quickly renewed for second seasons, so there’s a lot of hope that the same will happen with this new series.

Watson will debut on Sunday, Jan. 26. The approximate start time is 10 p.m. ET (and it will get a 10 p.m. PT start time). It’s hard to be exact with the ET/CT airing because of the AFC Championship Game that will air on the network first. If that goes into overtime, it will mean that Waston’s start is pushed back. This happened to Tracker after the 2024 Super Bowl, but it didn’t cause too many issues for the ratings.

Watson moves to its regular timeslot in February

After getting this special airing, we’ll have to wait until February for the next new episode. Watson will move to its regular timeslot after the Super Bowl.

CBS has set the timeslot as Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. This is sandwiched between Tracker and The Equalizer. Since there are no football games pre-empting the start time, this could work out as a strong timeslot, especially following Tracker.

What is Watson about?

It looks like Watson will be a mixture of medical and crime drama. Chestnut plays Dr. John Watson, who returns to his medical career a year after the death of Sherlock Holmes. He focuses on rare disorders, and the trailer for the series makes it clear that he decides he needs to use is detective skills over his medical skills to help his patients.

Sherlock Holmes fans will be happy to hear that there are elements from this series pulled into the new show. Watson is pulled back into his past when Moriarty shows up. It turns out that he isn’t dead like everyone thought he was. What about Sherlock?

Watson premieres on Sunday, Jan. 26 after the AFC Championship Game on CBS. It will then air Sundays at 9/8c starting Feb. 16.
