It's that time of year. The days get longer, the weather gets warmer, and everyone is looking at what will happen as the current seasons of their favorite shows draw to an end. Among the first shows to sign off for the summer is Fox's Best Medicine.
The town of Port Wenn and many of its citizens are wondering what their futures will be. This is because in the penultimate episode of season 1, we learn that the town has been sold to a company to create a salmon farm.
It should lead to both drama and comedy from Doc Martin and the townspeople who will be intent on keeping their town as is. Glendon, who betrayed the town in an effort to work with the new company, has been the villain of the first season.
It will be interesting and satisfying to see if the villain receives his comeuppance, and most would love Doc Martin to face off and take him on. That is the main storyline that hopefully will draw a conclusion for the town as a whole.
However, there will be many other storylines that follow each of the characters. Elaine Denton, who is Martin's assistant, has been working on her entrance to Juilliard. Hopefully for viewers who have followed her arc, we should see if she gets in or not and how that leads to her relationship with Al.
The love triangle will be featured heavily in the finale. Doc Martin, Louisa, and Sheriff Mark have been anchoring much of the first season. As for the lovable Sheriff Mark, it seems he is bothered by the doctor and Louisa's new romance.
For many viewers who have adored Sheriff Mark, one can hope he can find peace and possibly a love interest. Hopefully it won't be with Louisa, which would only add unnecessary drama and a plot device for the second season.
As for Louisa, she is deciding to have a baby, and it will be interesting to see if she decides to go forward with IVF or asks Martin to have the child with her. It seemed in the last episode that she would be open to the idea.
The series could either have them decide to finally date or leave it on a cliffhanger in their relationship. As the finale airs tomorrow, some of these questions will be answered and others will begin. It should be a fun night for anyone who has been watching since the start of the season, and thankfully a second season has already been ordered, which guarantees we'll get resolution to any cliffhangers introduced in the finale!
