Will Estes to reprise his role as Jamie Reagan for Boston Blue season 2

Boston Blue just got a little more familiar!

Blue Bloods fans will be pleased to learn that Will Estes is set to reprise his role as Jamie Reagan in season 2 of Boston Blue. The news comes on the heels of the show starting production for season 2 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Season 1 of Boston Blue followed NYPD detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as he moved to Boston to help his son Sean (Mika Amonsen) recover from a tragic accident. With all the uncertainty and change, Danny decided to take a position with the Boston Police Department to be closer to his son. As a part of his new job, he was partnered with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), a member of The Silvers, a prominent law enforcement family in Boston.

The Silver family is comprised of patriarch Reverend Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson), District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), Superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), and rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner).

“Family Matters” – Danny and Baez investigate a case of grand larceny tied to feuding crime families when the gifts are stolen during a mob wedding. Also, Frank clashes with Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) when an influx of immigrants arrive in the city; Erin questions whether her district attorney campaign is compromising her day job; and Eddie enlists Jamie’s help to bust a drug dealer responsible for fentanyl overdoses in order to comfort a grieving grandfather (Larry Manetti), on BLUE BLOODS, | CBS

The Reagan family is back together

TVLine first reported Estes' return on Friday following a post from a Wahlberg fan account on Instagram. The post shows Wahlberg being playful with fans between takes, while Estes walks in the background.

Wahlberg later confirmed the return on his Instagram story, with a selfie showing himself, Estes, Martin-Green, Amonsen, and Scribner filming a lunch scene. The post read, "Welcome (back) to the family! Jamie Reagan! AKA Will Estes!" and featured the song "Celebration" by Kool & the gang.

However, while Estes' "homecoming" has been confirmed by TVLine, details of his storyline are still being kept under wraps.

What to expect from Jamie's return in Boston Blue

At the end of the Blue Bloods series finale, Jamie and Eddie announced that they were expecting their first child. This was welcome news to many Blue Bloods fans who had closely followed their journey as partners, friends, and eventually, lovers over the years.

Viewers got a glimpse of the new baby in Boston Blue's midseason finale when Jamie texted Danny a photo, along with the child's name: Joe Francis Reagan. The moment served as a meaningful nod to Joe's memory and the legacy of Blue Bloods.

While it is unclear what Jamie's exact storyline in season 2 of Boston Blue will entail, we will likely get an update on how family life is going for the new dad. It is also possible that we will see the character have dinner with the Silvers, as it appears to be the most popular stop for Reagan family members who visit Boston.

Most importantly, we will get to see Danny and Jamie spend some one-on-one time together, as evidenced by the set videos.

Season 2 of Boston Blue premieres Friday, Oct. 9, at 10/9c on CBS.
