Just like Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones, the gang on Always Sunny drinks and they know things.

The link between FXX comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones is a strong one. Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have been fans of Always Sunny for ages, and, in turn, Sunny guys Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton are huge fans of GoT.

So it’s only natural that the two groups would collaborate from time to time. On the Sunny side of things, McElhenney just recently hosted the Game of Thrones panel at San Diego Comic Con, and traveled to the set two summers ago, inspiring crossover rumors galore. And while we didn’t get to see the Sunny guys in Westeros, Benioff and Weiss recently appeared in an episode of Always Sunny as apathetic workers at a waterpark. Spoiler alert: They killed it.

The two series enjoy a healthy cross-section of fans, and for good reason. While one is a traditional comedy, and the other a drama, Game of Thrones and Always Sunny have a ton in common. Characters on both series drink with abandon, jockey for power, and generally only look out for themselves. However, while Game of Thrones has a wide cast of characters with a variety of moral motivation, the entire gang on Always Sunny is all about amoral selfishness.

Take Cersei Lannister’s narcissism, multiply it by five, and – boom – you’ve got the gang. They’re completely and totally out for themselves. It’s the entire point of the show. Just like the families in Westeros, they poison their rivals (“The Gang Reignites the Rivalry”), abuse women (uh, pretty much everything Dennis has ever done), and gleefully manipulate others for their own gain. But the gang occasionally surpasses Game of Thrones in pure savagery. Callous and cunning, the Paddy’s group will stop at nothing to get what they want.

Sure, they don’t have dragons, but we’d argue that the Sunny gang definitely has an edge on the plotters in Westeros when it comes to serious scheming. Here are all the times that Always Sunny was more savage than Game of Thrones.
