Izzy’s Secret & Dr. Rouse’s Deal

Izzy and Jace fight in the training room, both desperately needing to get out some aggression, but Jace can tell that Izzy’s holding back because of her injury from the demon wound. Izzy plays it off, but when she can’t catch the stick that Jace tosses her way, Jace insists that she get her injury checked. He even knows how to motivate her, saying that Aldertree is sending a team to the Iron Sisters in the morning, and that if Izzy is well enough, she could possibly go too — a dream she’s had since she was a little kid.

Izzy goes to Aldertree to make the request. She wants lead the mission to the Iron Sisters, but Aldertree insists on inspecting her wound, telling her that he used to be a field medic. Izzy is clearly in pain as he checks her back, but she lies. Aldertree thinks that she has a venom infection, which is why the healing runes aren’t working. He offers a way to help her get rid of the infection. And that’s when things start to get… weird. Aldertree applies a cream called yin fen to Izzy’s spine, and things are a bit — sensual? He lets Izzy keep the rest of the cream though, warning her not to overuse it.

Alec enters Clary’s bedroom, and she is less than amused, but he apologizes before she can stop him, saying that he would do anything to take back those thirty seconds.

“Clary, if there’s any chance we can get your mother back, we have to take it. Whatever happens, I’ll be there.”

And in an unlikely twist of events, Alec and Clary set off as allies to visit Dr. Rouse to try and bring Jocelyn back.  Alec is following Magnus advice, but we have a feeling that things are about to go horribly, horribly wrong.

Dr. Rouse assumes that Alec is Clary’s boyfriend, and his reaction to her comment is truly priceless. Dr. Rouse sees through his glamour and tells him to leave the arrows in the entryway. Clary’s brought Jocelyn’s hair for the spell, and Dr. Rouse wants a drop of Clary’s blood for their “paperwork” regarding the deal, telling Alec to wait downstairs. Alec immediately steps into protective big brother mode, and demands to see the woman’s credentials, vowing not to leave Clary’s side. Clary convinces him that she’ll be ok, and he sits in the foyer, guarded by the tiny Madzie.

Simon’s mother demands to know what’s going on with him, and Simon comes out and says it. He’s a vampire. He speaks quickly about this death and revival, and he’s desperate for her approval. She pulls Simon into a hug and holds him close, but it seems as though she’s under the impression that Simon is having a psychotic break.

Clary puts Jocelyn’s hair on the table and is told to think of a positive memory of her mother (and we’re really just waiting for something terribly to happen). Dr. Rouse starts her magic, and the bird from earlier in the episode is summoned to the room, flying into the window until it breaks. Dr. Rouse grabs the bird and snaps its neck, throwing its body to the ground among the broken glass. Clary realizes that Dr. Rouse is hiding something and she stops the spell.

Downstairs, Madzie grows more curious of Alec, who tries to make small-talk with her even though she won’t speak back. Alec asks her about her toys, and she points ominously upstairs. A baby starts crying, and Madzie takes off after the sound, Alec following slowly behind.

Dr. Rouse has trapped Clary inside the room, arguing that Clary must still keep the blood oath even though the spell is stopped. Dr. Rouse will force Clary to be impregnated by a demon, to give birth to a warlock — a dying breed. Dr. Rouse has an elixir that makes it possible for Shadowhunters to get pregnant by demons, and Clary realizes that Dr. Rouse had spiked her tea. Clary’s already drunk it. Dr. Rouse reveals that after Clary gives birth, she will wipe Clary’s memory. Alec finds Nurse Lee and demands to see Clary. He goes into the room where Clary was, but it’s empty.

Jace sees that Izzy’s fighting and feeling better, but she doesn’t tell him about the cream from Aldertree. He wants to know if she’s seen Clary, and Izzy tells him that Clary left with Alec a few hours ago. Realizing that they’re getting into trouble with dark magic, Jace and Izzy leave to find them.

Alec tries to get the nurse to tell him where Clary’s been taken, but she explains that her memory’s been wiped. She lets it slip that there are several women who’ve given birth to babies there, none of whom remember what they’ve done. And in quite possibly the most terrifying moment in Shadowhunters history, we see Clary trapped in a basement. A small door is eerily lifted and a demon crawls through toward her.

Oh, HELL NO.
