This Is Us’ Chrissy Metz would like to know if Oscar Isaac is free for a rom-com. We would like to know when we can buy tickets.

Chrissy Metz plays Kate Pearson on This Is Us and her breakout performance was and is so affecting that many experts are anticipating an Emmy nomination, if not win, for the actress. As such, Metz has been on the interview and promotion rounds, appearing in the Los Angeles Times’ Emmy Contenders series.

Her interview with Yvonne Villarreal covers so much ground, but the lightning round toward the end really offers some major highlights. Including Metz admitting that horror would never be the genre for her. But rom-coms? A rom-com with Oscar Isaac? Sign her (and us) up.

The lightning round focused heavily on TV — the last show she’s binge-watched was The Handmaid’s Tale; if she could go back and be on any show she would be on Are You Being Served? — but if you take time to watch the full 30-plus minute segment, there’s much to learn.

She describes how after 12 years in L.A., and a lull after a seemingly promising American Horror Story booking, she considered moving home. But the This Is Us audition arrived just in time and the rest is history.

Metz has a limited filmography so far. Her first role was on an episode of Entourage, followed by additional one-episode spots on shows like My Name is Earl and Huge. The American Horror Story: Freak Show booking felt like her big break, but she describes the lack of follow up opportunities disappointing. And yet: This Is Us came about and now she’s looking at her first potential Emmy nomination.

All of which is not to draw attention to her lack of credits, but rather underscore that really, the opportunities are endless for her. She’s not about to be pigeonholed by a history, so why not bring on the rom coms?
