#2 She has a worked with the new showrunner

Whittaker and Chibnall have a working relationship already.

Now before anybody starts with; ‘Oh, is that how she got the role then?!?!’ just stop, now. We are not going down that route.

New Doctor Who showrunner, Chris Chibnall, has taken over from Steven Moffat and his first series will be series 11.

So we have both a new showrunner and a new Doctor, something that could be a recipe for disaster. Well, that’s unlikely in this case as both have worked together in the past already.

Chibnall was the showrunner for the ITV series Broadchurch. Whittaker had a key role in that show as Beth Latimer, the grieving mother turned counsellor, in all three of its series.

If you have never watched Broadchurch you need to go check it out, but, with what the show entailed it would not be surprising for both Chibnail and Whittaker to already have a good working relationship.

Most importantly, however, is that they will surely have an understanding of one another in what each is trying to portray onscreen.

This is nothing but a good thing for Doctor Who.

This is not the first time that both the star of Doctor Who and the showrunner have a former relationship, both David Tennant and Christopher Ecclestone had previous works with Russell T Davis.
