Shadowhunters: Katherine McNamara talks Jonathan and the ‘brutal’ Season 2 finale

We caught up with Katherine McNamara at San Diego Comic-Con to learn more about Jonathan, #Clace and the ‘Shadowhunters’ Season 2 finale!
The cast of Shadowhunters took on San Diego Comic-Con for the first time this year and we sat down with Clary Fray herself, Katherine McNamara, to get the scoop on what’s to come in the last few episodes of Season 2!
“It affects everything because Clary thought she lost her brother. She thought her brother was dead. She thought she really didn’t have any family left,” McNamara said. “A chance at having part of her biological family back in her life again is huge. She will do anything and everything she can to give Jonathan a second chance.”
McNamara explained that in Clary’s mind, demon blood doesn’t make a person innately bad. “Magnus has demon blood. Luke has demon blood. Simon has demon blood and she knows that they are still inherently good. So giving Jonathan a second chance only seems second nature to her. How that’s going to turn out? We’ll see…”

Speaking on the intensity of the Season 2 finale, McNamara has a warning for fans. “The rest of the season is brutal. We were shocked by what they allowed us to do and by what they kept uncut,” she teased.
Fans already know that they’re in for an emotional rollercoaster ride as Season 2 comes to a close, but McNamara revealed a little bit about how she thinks fans will react to the finale episode.
“I think they’re going to love it, but it’s also going to destroy them. It destroyed me when I read the script. I’m a huge fan of the books. I was crying. I was in tears,” she said. “There’s a scene in Episode 20 that is probably our favorite scene we ever shot on the show and it’s brutal and it’s difficult, but it’s wonderful and we’re really proud of how it turned out.”
