FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story is almost here! To help you prepare, we’ve got your guide to everything you need to know about Ryan Murphy’s anthology series.

American Crime Story first took us on a wild ride as we watched the O.J. Simpson trial unfold. And now, the award-winning anthology series is back with another season. This time, fans will follow Andrew Cunanan and his crimes leading up to the murder of Gianni Versace.

Who is involved? When does the series premiere? What can we expect? We’ve got all you need to know, below!

Official synopsis from FX“Inspired by actual events, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story profiles spree-killer Andrew Cunanan, whose cross-country path of destruction earns him a spot on FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List, before his murder of international fashion icon Gianni Versace on the steps of Versace’s South Beach residence in 1997. Based on the book Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth, the series examines how cultural homophobia and prejudice delayed law enforcement’s search for Cunanan, as well as Versace’s relationship with his sister and muse Donatella. The Assassination of Gianni Versace is a story of failed ambition, about how the pursuit of an “American Dream” ended in murder and suicide.”

More from FX

What it’s really about: While we will be seeing and learning a lot about Gianni Versace, his sister Donatella, and long-time partner Antonio, the series will mainly follow Andrew Cunanan.

The serial killer is the central focus of the show as audiences witness Cunanan’s upbringing, adult life, and murders he committed before ending Gianni Versace’s life and his own.

Premiere date: Wednesday, January 17, at 10 p.m. eastern.

The series consists of nine episodes and will play in reverse chronological order, so do expect to be a bit confused by the order of the events.
