American Horror Story is known for bouncing back and forth between past and present, however, the upcoming 8th season will take a leap forward into the future.

During the winter Television Critics Association’s press tour this past Friday, series creator Ryan Murphy shed light on a few minor details regarding the upcoming season. TV Line first reported the season tease with Murphy stating,

"“It takes place in the future, It’s still topical, but [set in] the future, which I’ve never done… I think people will like it. It’s different from what we’ve done before.”"

Though Murphy doesn’t go too far into detail about exactly how big of a time gap we can expect, it must be fairly significant for him to say they’ve never done something of this nature.

One potential previous storyline could include the AHS: Asylum ties to aliens and Kit Walker, but the door is wide open for any story Murphy feels ready to tackle. If anyone was hoping it could be the Coven and Murder House crossover season we were promised, it is now confirmed that it won’t be that. However, Murphy does discuss that upcoming season, and offers hope for enthusiasts of both the first and third chapters of the popular FX series. Murphy explains,

"“We’re working on it, but that’s not going to be [Season 8],” adding, “That will probably be the one after that. We’ve already met about it and outlined it. But it won’t be next because some of the [cast members] are not available.”"

Season 8 of AHS is still shrouded in secrecy, but at least we now get a vague idea of the setting and a time frame on when to expect the highly anticipated crossover that could be season 9!
