Captain Marvel set images feature Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and a spaceship

Over the weekend, a batch of photos from the set of Captain Marvel showed up online. In them, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders are standing on a street facing something awe-inspiring, possibly a spaceship.

In the Captain Marvel images, Jackson is back and ready for action as Nick Fury. Though, we should mention it’s in the past so don’t get your hopes up for Fury to appear in either Avengers movies. Accompanying Jackson is Cobie Smulders as the equally talented Maria Hill. Her purpose isn’t immediately apparent but her presence makes this scene seem like a S.H.I.E.L.D. mission; we just don’t know how they factor into the Skrull invasion. But, perhaps these Captain Marvel set images will provide us with some insight.

At first glance, the images don’t seem to reveal anything significant, but when paired with a giant green screen in the sky, they’re definitely interesting. The green screen’s purpose probably won’t be what we expect, but it could be one of three things.

More from Marvel Movies

For one, the giant green screen could be in place of an Skrull ship attacking a populated area. Another option is that it could be Captain Marvel’s ship. The first Captain Marvel footage did show Carol Danvers aboard a very high-tech ship, so one hovering over a city area could be what Fury (Jackson) and Hill (Smulders) are staring at. Or, perhaps they’re looking at a horde of Skrulls falling from the sky. The green-skinned creatures will likely be heavy in CGI, meaning a green screen could be used to portray an army of aliens falling out of the sky.

In any case, Nick Fury and Maria Hill are going to have their hands full. They’ll be dealing with a secret invasion of Skrulls, as well as a rambunctious Carol Danvers.

While details surrounding Danvers are scarce, we should anticipate her releasing an enormous amount of energy on Earth. Kevin Feige has called Carol Danvers the strongest hero in the MCU. Therefore, it’s reasonable to assume Danvers will cause immense havoc on Earth—kin to the Hulk’s destructive abilities. Let’s just hope Danvers learns how to control her great power before she’s considered a threat by S.H.I.E.L.D. and every other policing organization on Earth. Because if she doesn’t, Danvers could become a fugitive hero much like Captain America.
