15 2018 films with the potential to be awesome

The month of January has passed and we have already seen some legitimate film of the year contenders in The Insult and Paddington 2. However, we still have 11 months worth of films to look forward to in 2018, but which 2018 films have the most potential to be truly outstanding?
It’s way too early to tell whether 2018 will be a great year for film, but judging from some of the releases this month (a notorious dump-site for movies lacking studio trust), it’s safe to say that 2018 is headed in a positive direction. January has seen the releases of films such as Paddington 2, Insidious: The Last Key and Maze Runner: The Death Cure, all films that have ranged from decent to amazing.

The year of 2018 is off to a solid start, but we still have another 11 months to change that up. However, out of all the 2018 films, there are a select few that seem to demand some high expectations and with expectations come anticipation for greatness.
I’ve done a somewhat similar list with anticipated films of 2018, but with this list, I’m not going to look at films with extremely high anticipation from any type of film crowd. Instead, I aim to look at films that, regardless of anticipation, are setting themselves up as great/unique films to look forward to as the year passes on. These are the types of films that may or may not be on many critics’ best of 2018 list at the end of the year. Not all of them are of one specific genre and each have different expectations for what they represent as a genre film. But each have the potential to be great, not just in technical terms, but as potential trailblazers for films and/or filmmakers of incredibly different fields. Some of them, to be quite frank, just seem like they’re going to be a roaring good time, but in any case, this list will showcase 15 2018 films with the potential to be awesome.
