New series of Star Wars films to be written and produced by Game of Thrones creators
By Tony Smejek
Space is coming as Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been chosen to produce and write a new set of Star Wars films. Going from fantasy to space opera will be interesting for these two talented storytelling artists.
The Star Wars franchise will now have on board the phenomenal Game of Thrones creators. The duo from the hit HBO series will be taking on a galaxy far, far away. Considering their creative prowess which has unfolded on HBO, chances they could be very well up to the job.
According to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy via StarWars.com, she recognized just that.
"“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”"

Apparently, Kathleen knows good quality when she sees it. Chances are even the most critical of Star Wars fans may raise an eyebrow of approval. Just imagine geeks from all over starting to generate Game of Thrones/Star Wars crossover memes online, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Internet reacts.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have already proven their world building, so it’ll be interesting how they’ll inject that into the Lucasfilm franchise. That is if the powers that be agree to go the direction of world building.
They intend on getting the ball rolling on the Star Wars movies as soon as they’ve concluded working in the final Game of Thrones season. They do admit to being rather fearful of the task.
"“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since. We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”"

StarWars.com mentioned that these stories will be set apart from the Skywalker saga and also away from Rian Johnson’s new trilogy. That said, it’ll be interesting what kind of in-depth characters they come up with. Hopefully the flicks will have the same amount of intrigue as Game of Thrones.
