Disney: Keys to success for the live-action Kim Possible movie

Disney has a knack for rebooting their old properties successfully. If they want the live-action Kim Possible to succeed, they need to go back to basics.

Back in the 90’s and 00’s, Disney Channel had some of the best shows for kids. There were cartoons, live-action shows and even, some reruns. One of their most popular shows was Kim Possible. Airing between 2002-2007, the animated show about the teenage spy is sorely missed by those who loved it.

Disney is finally kicking the dust off the series, though. They are developing a new live-action movie based on the series. It comes as a shock as the series hasn’t aired on TV in over 10 years. Originally, the series ran for almost 100 episodes and 2 animated features.

Every time you turn around, TV shows are being rebooted. Disney has jumped on the nostalgia train with reboots of other classics like Ducktales, Boy Meets World and That’s So Raven. It was only a matter of time before they rebooted another classic like Kim Possible.

Unfortunately, one thing fans always hoped for was a romantic relationship between Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable. The live-action movie would hopefully answer some of these questions after all this time. However, it makes sense why Disney would choose to produce a film now.

Disney has had great success with their live-action movies, too. It’s not going to be the same as Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella but certainly will keep some of the same elements. We’ll hopefully get to learn more about our beloved characters and meet some new ones.

Technology played a huge role in the series, too. If the movie is going to be set in 2018, cell phones have become so much more advanced. Kim had a lot of gadgets and different tools she used so Disney has a world of possibilities ahead of them.

If there’s one element the series should focus on, it’s Kim. She was known for being smart, strong and still a girly girl. At its heart, the show was about Kim and how she dealt with being a spy, family and high school. If the live-action movie brings even 1/10^th of the same girl power, it’s going to be successful.

It’s not going to be easy to duplicate such success, but Disney has a great track record with its reboots. Getting a glimpse into Kim’s life, all the villains and introducing her to a new generation will all be worth it.
