The first cast member in the Charmed reboot has been named and it’s ironically a man.

The Charmed reboot has certainly gotten a lot further than the original attempt last year. Not only does it now follow three sisters, but those three sisters also have names. Macy, Mel and Madison are set to grace screens sometime in the 2018-2019 season. But now it has gotten another step further with the casting of its first character.

While a big deal has been made about the “feminist” reboot (because apparently the original series was nothing of the sort), the first person to be cast is a man. That may be because one of the male roles is easier, since the casting department will have to get the sisters just right, but there’s still something ironic about the announcement.

More from CW

Ser-Darius Blain will play Galvin, Macy’s filmmaking boyfriend. Hopefully he won’t turn out to be a warlock as Piper’s boyfriend turned out to be in the pilot of the original series. Galvin has been described as a sensitive and funny guy, willing to follow Macy across the country, so she can take up her dream job. It’s not clear how long he’s been in the filmmaking business, but he’s not been successful just yet.

Blain is currently famous for the role of Young Fridge in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Casting is still underway for the series. As well as the three sisters, two other male characters will also need to be cast. The first is Harry, the “devilish handsome” advisor, which suggests that he may have a dark-side if that particular wording is a clue. The second is Madison’s ex-boyfriend, Brian.

An extra female actress is also being sought for. Mel is a lesbian and the casting department needs to find her a perfect girlfriend.

At least we know the showrunners are putting a lot of effort into getting the sisters right. Charmed originally worked because it was all about the three sisters, who just happened to be witches. That family element needs to be there for this latest reboot. And if it’s a case of taking time because of this, then really I’m all up for it.
