While the vast majority of people were out this weekend watching Black Panther and enjoying all things Wakanda, trolls were trolling.

More from Marvel Movies

T’Challa haters were online, mostly on Twitter, asking and making comments such as — “Wakanda isn’t real, you know?!” “Watched Black Panther and was not impressed.” “Why is everyone dressing up for a damn movie?” “People are acting like Black Panther is the greatest thing to happen to humanity!” You get the picture. Insert eye roll. Let’s go over them all…

Of course Wakanda isn’t real. Know what else isn’t real? Hogwarts (Harry Potter), the Star Destroyer (Star Wars), and none of the Seven Kingdoms (Game of Thrones), yet we’ve all participated, or at least witnessed others dressing up for movies, Halloween, and some even have “Gryffindor” listed as their school on their social media profile. We’ve done this for years and we’ve let others be.

Not impressed? That’s fine. I suppose no movie will ever please every single person. However, to go out of your way to comment how you didn’t enjoy the film to someone who is posting about how much they loved it, is hating. No one asked you. Go post about how much you hated the movie on your own page.

Dressing up? That circles back to the above, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and many other fans have dressed up for movie premieres. It’s nothing new. And if you believe some fans are acting as if Black Panther is the greatest thing to ever happen, so what? Let people enjoy things. Don’t act like you don’t geek out over Han Solo. We see you.

Unfortunately, the hate was more than simple comments. Racists went a step further and posted fake claims about white people being assaulted at screenings. All false. Miserable people hate to see others happy.

Black Panther is an extremely important movie for many reasons (diversity, largest black cast in a movie, first black MCU superhero to star in his own film, not to mention all the important messages the film delivers and lessons it teaches, just to name a few). It’s a game changer for Marvel, and with so many records already broken in its first weekend, a huge win.
