With questions over the fate of Lagertha, Alexander Ludwig may have hinted that Bjorn will become King of Kattegat in Vikings Season 5.

Vikings Season 5A ended with the war between brothers still not over. Lagertha and Bjorn’s armies were forced to retreat, after Rollo’s Frankish forces gave Ivar’s army the much needed boost to overpower through numbers. While the majority of characters survived, Lagertha was left cowering in a corner. Now it looks like the end is near for the sheildmaiden-turned-queen.

Alexander Ludwig shared a photo of himself in character. As Bjorn, he sat on the throne at Kattegat, hinting the possibility that he was taking over from his onscreen mom. After all, Bjorn is Lagertha’s only son and he is Ragnar’s eldest son. Rightfully, he would become King of Kattegat.

Many Vikings fans expect Lagertha to die this season. During the trailer for the second half of the season, Ivar states that Lagertha will be a “great sacrifice.” In Season 4, the Seer confirmed that Lagertha would die at the hands of one of Ragnar’s sons. While he never confirmed which son, many believed that Ivar would eventually get his revenge.

Fans quickly took to social media to question the idea of Bjorn becoming king. It wasn’t Lagertha’s death they focused on, though. One of Bjorn’s brothers was brought into the discussion. To become King of Kattegat there’s the chance that he would kill his youngest half-brother, Ivar.

However, Alex Hogh Andersen seems to have hinted that Ivar’s fate is firmly on Earth for the time being. He shared behind-the-scenes footage with the hashtag #Season6, suggesting he makes it through Vikings Season 5.

There is a strong possibility that Bjorn will become king of somewhere. In real life, Bjorn became King of Sweden. While Vikings hasn’t opened that possibility up yet, there’s nothing to stop it happening later this season. After all, the timeline has jumped considerably since the series began in 2013.

Of course the image could just be Ludwig having some fun on set. He did make it clear that it wasn’t an official image by stating that his co-star Andersen had taken the photo. The actors have regularly stated that Andersen loves to take videos and photos behind the scenes.
