By Drew Koenig
The best moments from The Magicians’ much anticipated musical episode.
Ever since it was announced that The Magicians would be doing a musical episode this season, fans have been waiting for it with baited breath. In true The Magicians fashion, it did not disappoint.
Here were the best moments from the episode:
1. Bowie

- Is a new episode of The Ark on tonight? (April 26)
Since we’re not attempting to bury the lead in any way, this is, without a doubt, the standout of the episode that we might as well get out of the way right here at the top. Also the moment where The Magicians became Sense8 for a hot minute, Quentin, Alice,Kadi, Josh, Julia, Margo, Eliot, and Penny — via psychic link— sing David Bowie’s “Under Pressure” to break out of a fantasy world disguised as a Brakebills party that Josh has been stuck in.
2. Kadi’s song
To distract the partygoers from the high-jinx that Quentin and Alice are getting up to, Kady sings a striptease rendition of “All I Need is the Boy.” It’s so perfect in its faux-reality, ending with a classic dance behind a lighted curtain.
3. Tick’s betrayal
Ever since Margo and Eliot became rulers of Fillory, their righthand man has always been one Tick Pickwick.
That all changed after the Fillorians turned on them and Tick found this to be a good time to seize back the power that he had before they arrived on the scene. The turn from lovable Tick to nefarious is a remarkable bit of fun, especially as he tells the Muntjac to sail off a cliff.

4. The Muntjac: #1 Margo fan
As they were singing “Under Pressure,” the Muntjac was making its way over a waterfall. It’s a climactic moment and supposedly the end for these two, except that apparently the living ship can fly given the right circumstances.
Either the Muntjac is a big Bowie fan or a Margo fan. Possibly both.
5. Josh’s song
The episode is named after Josh, after all, so of course he gets his own number at the beginning of the episode. Dancing down the Brakebills stairs singing “Wham Bam” by Clooney, Josh completely owns it and is in a wonderful element here. It’s perfectly punctuated by Quentin declaring: “I think we’ve found Hell.”
The Magicians airs Mondays on SYFY.
