A Quiet Place has been seen by its first set of viewers, all who were not at all quiet while watching the horror thriller on the big screen. While this isn’t the first film Krasinski’s directs, it is the first to draw such a big positive response — the SXSW crowd loves it! The audience can’t wait to watch it again, and it has yet to receive a negative review (at the time of publishing this article) on Rotten Tomatoes. Present at the screening were Emily Blunt, Krasinski’s wife and co-star in the movie, and their two movie-children Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds.
Why is it so great? Who stars in it? What’s it even about, anyway? Below is everything we learned at SXSW! Note: We try to remain spoilers free, but mild teasers may follow…
A Quiet Place follows a small family who communicate with each other using sign language. Their surroundings appear post-apocalyptic and we quickly learn that a tragedy took place not too long ago (we meet the family on day 89 after the attacks, to be exact). Unknown creatures have taken over the world. All the family, or anyone, really, know about them is that they’re fast, they’re ruthless, and they’ll find you — IF you make a sound!
As the trailer (which you can find attached above this article) teases, if they hear you, they’ll hunt you. And if you need to see just how brutal and quick these aliens are, you’ll see it early in the film (spoiler alert: you may cry).

The movie will stay with you long after you have left the theater. Its eerie silence is haunting, even more so than the alien creatures (which you will get to see). A Quiet Place is driven entirely by the character’s performances and emotions, and for it to be perfect you need a stellar cast. The child actors are brilliant! Expect to see more of them soon in different projects. Krasinki had double duty as director and actor, but he has no trouble juggling both. Emily Blunt is the heart of the film, Krasinski made the right call giving his wife the best scenes as Blunt flawlessly delivers the tears, fear, and action.
Whether you’re a fan of the horror genre or not, this is one you’ll want to watch on the big screen!
A Quiet Place arrives to theaters on April 6, 2018.
