Based on the released clips we’ve seen so far, we already know quite a few things about Clace in the season 3 premiere. Clary is going to be honored in her rune ceremony for being victorious in her fight against Valentine, preventing her father from making a wish with the Angel Raziel. We also know however, that the two of them don’t initially see eye-to-eye about whether they should keep their secret to themselves. And though Clary’s under the impression that she and Jace have been completely honest with one another, the audience knows better…

Relationships with family, friends, parabatai, and mentor figures will all be tested in Shadowhunters season 3 because of choices made by both Clary and Jace, but we’re also seeing a new kind of villain on the series who will affect relationships as well, and her name is Lilith. The central enemy is no longer someone related to either Clary or Jace (or someone working in the Institute). The show has a different feel to it because of this external ominous force, and we get the feeling from the premiere that neither Clary nor Jace is truly prepared to face what’s about to shake up their world.
