HBO’s Fahrenheit 451 gets debut date
Fans looking forward to the HBO adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 now has a debut date to put in their diaries.
There are a string of novel adaptations out at the moment. Another version of Fahrenheit 451 is the latest to hit the TV, with HBO releasing the film exclusively. There’s no long to wait for the adaptation now. The movie will air on May 19.
The adaptation stars Michael B. Jordan (of Black Panther fame), as Montag. In the novel, Montag is a young fireman who finds himself delving into the world that came before the burning of books; a world when firemen put out fires instead of starting them! Jordan’s character will go up against Michael Shannon’s Beatty, who starts off as Montag’s mentor and fire captain. He will also find himself connected to the informant Clarisse, played by Sofia Boutella, who is caught between Beatty and Montag’s interests.

A trailer dropped three weeks ago and certainly puts on a modern view of the world Bradbury created. It also looks like Montag will take a slightly different path compared to the novel, as he appears in front of school children, telling them that by the time they grow up there will be no books left.
Bradbury’s novel certainly made waves when it was released–and still does today. It’s just the latest string of older novels depicting a dystopian future, where the government decides on the news it spreads out. Having books from the past is illegal; gaining your own knowledge of the world is illegal. The idea is the fire makes everyone equal, but that isn’t really the case when you consider who spreads the news and what they choose to share.
