It’s party time for General Hospital as they are gearing up to celebrate their 55th anniversary and they are promising some fun memories along the way.

It is hard to believe that General Hospital has been on air for a whopping 55 years! It is the longest running soap that is still airing on television and still going strong. The daytime drama debuted on April 1, 1963, so this week will be a big celebration that will include a walk down memory lane not only for fans, but also for someone who needs a little help in that area.

A party to remember

A new General Hospital promo was just released showing the cast celebrating at a party at the Metro Court. What is the special occasion? According to an article by ABC Soaps in Depth, Sonny will be throwing a party in honor of his dad. Mike is battling the effects of Alzheimer’s and Sonny is trying his best to help him cope after his terrible diagnosis. His memory is fading fast and this get together with faces from the past may just be the thing that will trigger his memories.

This all fits in perfectly for the big anniversary celebration for this week as well. Alzheimer’s robs patients of their memories making it extremely difficult for not only the patient, but also for the family. This party for Mike will bring many fond memories for longtime General Hospital fans as well.

More from Hidden Remote

It looks like Mike will be behind the bar just like his bartending days at the campus disco back in the day. That is what he remembers, so this all may trigger even more past memories for him.

In the recent issue of ABC Soaps in Depth, co-headwriter Shelly Altman explained that the tie-in between Mike’s lost memories and the 55th anniversary celebration was a perfect fit. She is hoping that GH fans will appreciate it.

Fan-favorites back

Expect to have some favorite faces back in Port Charles. One of them is Lynn Herring who will be bringing back the irresistible Lucy Coe. She always brings life to a party. She is the backbone to all of the amazing General Hospital Nurses Ball festivities throughout the years. She will be clinking glasses with Mike as well.

There could also be some surprises this week. You just never know if another character will pop in unexpectedly.

It also looks like Eddie Main is back! Well, he has been there all along because he is now the mayor of Port Charles. Yes, we are talking about Ned Quartermaine who will be dusting off his guitar to sing at the party. That should be fun!
