Donald Glover releases Deadpool script on Twitter

Donald Glover posted a script for an episode of Deadpool on Twitter. He gave us a look at what the show could have been like.

It was recently announced that Donald Glover and FX were parting ways on Deadpool, the animated series that Glover was set to helm. With all of the hype surrounding Deadpool 2, it felt like a great time to expand on the character and give him his own animated show. FX would have allowed for the more mature content that we’d see in the show, but now the project isn’t happening.

Donald Glover clarified on Twitter that he had time to work on the series and in the same thread he posted a script. In it, he takes a crack at Marvel, includes plenty of pop culture references and captures the humor Deadpool is known for.

More from FX

The script is more of a statement on the show being cancelled. There’s a section of dialogue from Deadpool where he says, “You know, I’m not mad about this whole “cancelled” thing. I actually think it’s a good thing. I mean, is it even a good time to have a violent, gun loving white man ranting on TV? Other than the President!”

Even if this script isn’t one from an actual episode of the show, it makes a statement. Glover clearly had time to put this together, but the show was cancelled before it even had a chance to start. As a Deadpool fan, that was disappointing news. The script shows off Glover’s knack for writing the kind of humor we expect from Deadpool. It gets meta with the Marvel reference and it felt easy to picture exactly what he was going for.

With the pending Fox and Disney deal, who knows if we could see this project get off the ground again, but it feels like Glover might not want to be involved after this. It’s understandable, especially since he went through the trouble of posting each page of a script he wrote to Twitter just to show us all that he had the time to do it.

TV shows and films fall through all the time because of “creative differences.” We’ve seen it with Star Wars, Marvel movies and DC movies, which are some of the biggest properties out there. I can’t say I’m surprised this happened, but it’s always sad to see a show that you were looking forward to have the rug pulled out from under it.
