The writers behind This Is Us leave a lot of room for questions about each character’s backstory. Most of the characters have plenty of detail worked in, but we haven’t seen it all unfold yet. Naturally, this leaves us wanting to learn more!

As we’ve gotten to know the characters of This Is Us, we’ve only begun to scratch the surface of where they’ve come from. We do know the backstory about a few of them, but there’s so much more to discover.

One of the episodes that focused on one specific character’s life was the Deja episode. This episode explored Deja’s upbringing and gave us fans some insight into her childhood. I personally loved this episode and thought it brought more meaning to who she has become.

Of course, there are still more character-focused episodes we are all hoping to see. Honestly, they could make these types of episodes for every single person in the show. Here are three that I think This Is Us should start with.

Kevin and Sophie

We have a very basic understanding of what happened between Kevin and Sophie back when they were married. We just don’t have any of the details. Personally, I am a huge fan of this couple, and I was heartbroken to see their relationship come to an end. The chances of them getting back together are basically non-existent, but it would still be interesting to learn more about their backstory.

There’s a lot about these two that didn’t come out. A whole episode devoted to their former relationship would help us to get why they couldn’t make things work a second time around.

Toby

In my experience, very few This Is Us fans don’t love Toby. He’s funny, he’s good with Kate, and he’s just a likable guy.

Unfortunately, we just don’t know much about him. We do know that he was married before. What happened there though? There’s also his relationship with his parents and his brother, too. It seems like there is plenty to uncover from Toby’s backstory. This could also help us to understand how he works so well with Kate.

Beth

Last, but not least, we want to know more about Beth. Maybe it’s just me, but I am obsessed with her character. She’s got the perfect personality to complement Randall’s. Because of this, I want to learn more about her.

Additionally, she’s just got this huge heart for Deja. Remember when Randall wanted to adopt a baby, but Beth suggested helping out an older kid? I think that this has something to do with her backstory. I’d also like to see where Beth and Randall began! I’m sure we will get to in the near future.
