After the game-changing episode last week, episode seven of Ash vs Evil Dead continues to turn up the intensity level up a few notches. Evil finds another way to feast on the residents of Elk Grove–this time at a high school dance. Ash must deal with unforeseen obstacles while protecting Brandy but unfortunately it doesn’t work out too well.
The Ghost Beaters are already down a member with the death of Kelly and they don’t even know it yet. Kaya is still walking around in Kelly’s body as one of Ruby’s double agent pawns. Ruby’s son is now fully formed so the time is critical to get Brandy on her side to kill Ash and have her spawn fulfill the prophecy–or so she hopes.
Ruby’s plan takes shape
Brandy comes down the stairwell in a sparkly gold dress declaring that she is going to the school dance. Ash thinks this is no time to play “Barbie dress up” but she convinces him that this is the perfect opportunity to confront Ruby. Ms. Prevett reached out to Brandy and wants to clear the air at the dance and if anything goes wrong, Ash can protect his daughter. Kelly/Kaya sides with Brandy and reassures Ash that she will be there as the backup.
The toddler in Ruby’s attic has finally grown to its full form. As previously inferred, the creature hatches and comes out looking like a clone of Ash. Her son, the new “Prophesied One” will do anything Ruby says and she needs him to get Brandy on her side. He was born with his own chainsaw limb so he must cut it off to have the same look as Ash.
The high school is packed with students attending the school dance. Ash thinks they have a simple plan of getting to Ruby and making her reveal herself as a demon. The cops are still suspicious of Ash after the kid in trunk incident so he decides to sneak in the back. Brandy and Kelly walk into the dance while the clone of Ash is waltzing the halls. After some Ashy Slashy taunts, he chops up a few kids.
Seeing double
Ruby uses the dance as a perfect opportunity to get Brandy back on her side. Convincingly playing the caring counselor, Ruby holds a moment of silence for Brandy’s mom and Rachel. In a vulnerable moment, Brandy allows Ms. Prevett/Ruby to speak with her alone. Ruby reveals that she may have known more than she led on but she has done everything to protect Brandy. Of course, Kelly/Kaya is there to help Ruby’s argument.
Ash finally gets into the school and finds bodies, or what’s left of them, everywhere. Then he encounters his demon clone but the body double disappears before Ash can explain to the cop what’s going on. Now everyone thinks the real Ash is at the dance going on a killing spree. Kelly/Kaya comes to the rescue and she tells Ash that Ruby is planning on killing Brandy at the dance.
Brandy runs of looking for Ash and runs into him in the halls. Unbeknownst to her, the one she runs into is the clone. When he reveals himself as a demon, it scares Brandy off and gives Brandy more evidence that everything Ruby has told her about her father is true.
Kelly’s message
Pablo is in the cellar at the start of the episode. Something starts to happen with the markings on the wall. Then Kelly appears and explains to Pablo what happened to her. She seems to be in some sort of separate realm. Before Pablo can get information, Kelly is distracted by something in the realm and fears that “it’s coming back.” Upset by what he just witnessed, Pablo now has his sights set Ruby to get revenge for killing Kelly.
Pablo arrives at the school at the height of the chaos. He runs into Kelly and knows right away something is not quite right. He just talked to Kelly and knows she is dead so whoever he is talking to, it is not Kelly. Pablo sees right through her lies and headbutts her. She reveals herself as Kaya. Pablo takes out his gun and Kaya tells him to shoot her but he has trouble pulling the trigger. Thankfully by the time she gets her hand on the gun, it is out of bullets.
“Ding dong, you’re dead”
Real Ash goes looking for Brandy to warn her while demon Ash continues piling up the victims. He makes his way to the dance floor as Ruby locks everyone inside. She wants Brandy to be fully convinced that her father is the one carrying out the massacre. Ms. Prevett/Ruby gives Brandy the dagger and tells her to protect herself. The real Ash comes in just as the clone hides so nobody knows there is two of them. Ruby manipulates Ash into “killing her” which terrifies the students, especially Brandy. In the halls, Pablo runs from Kaya and finds Ash but quickly realizes this isn’t his Ash.
With Ms. Prevett seemingly dead, Brandy goes after Ash with the dagger but she can’t do it. At that moment, she drops it and Pablo brings the battle against clone Ash into the dance. Ash uses his boomstick to take down the clone and destroys Ruby’s plan for her son. In a fit of rage, she gets up proving that she is an immortal demon. Brandy is no fully convinced that everything Ash has told her is true. Ruby throws the dagger at Ash but Brandy jumps in front of it and it stabs her in the back. She then dies in her father’s arms.
A deadly realm
We are led to believe that Brandy is dead but possibly not fully. She wakes up in the same realm that we saw Kelly in earlier in the episode. Is this where the dead are transported and is there a way for Pablo to use his powers to get them back? That would also mean that Dalton is in there somewhere too. Brandy hears a similar noise that Kelly was threatened by and runs off. At least there is still story left to tell involving Kelly, Brandy, and Dalton.
