Black Lightning answered a number of questions in its season finale and still managed to create a few more.

With just 13 episodes in Black Lightning’s first season, the writers had to condense a lot into a short amount of time. Black Lightning got through a number of family issues, concluded a the main story line, and answered a number of questions in that span.

However, the questions weren’t answered perfectly, but rather through an info dump. At least, we get answers from Season 1 of Black Lightning.

How did Tobias Whale get his powers?

We know Tobias is an albino, which has its side effects such as needing to see a doctor regularly, but that didn’t explain how he looked the same now as he did 30-plus years ago. Plus, Tobias has an enormous amount of strength, being able to punch things into oblivion.

More from CW

It turns out that Tobias’ powers aren’t natural. He’s not a metahuman in the same sense that Black Lightning is. Instead, Gambi informed Jennifer that Tobias takes a serum that slows down the aging process and makes him as strong as at least three men.

It begs the question though – what happens if Tobias no longer has access to that serum? And where does he hide it?

How did Lala come back from the dead?

Tobias killed Lala early in the season, but the drug lord came back to Freeland without knowing how he got there. He was a changed man.

Lala hallucinated people he killed and then their faces were tattooed on his body. He was a calmer version of himself, but it also made him scarier because he wasn’t prone to rash decisions.

Apparently, Lala was a zombie. Tobias told him in the season finale that he spent a million dollars reanimating him. In the end, Tobias used him as a mule to carry a bomb into the ASA headquarters. Perhaps he’s gone for good this time.

Who is Cyanide?

Cyanide is Tobias’ body guard, right-hand woman, assassin. She’s an evil woman who wouldn’t think twice about killing someone, but where did she come from?

Gambi told the story of Cyanide’s beginning that she was found in a garbage dumpster with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. Tobias took her from an orphanage at 8 years old, malnourished and abused. Tobias took her in, but this isn’t a happily-ever-after story.

Tobias molded Cyanide into a killer and performed surgery on her that infused her body with carbon fiber body armor. The pain from the surgery probably made her as crazy as anything else in her life.

What did the ASA do to Khalil?

Gambi was full of info. He explained how the ASA healed Khalil’s paralysis but it doesn’t come without side effects. His body is producing a neurotoxin that causes instant paralysis so the ASA managed to give Khalil darts to weaponize him.

New Questions

With the end of the first season, new questions for Black Lightning popped up – but that’s why we get to have a Season 2.

What is in the briefcase?

At the end of the episode, Tobias opened a briefcase being held by Proctor, a rogue agent of the ASA. All we know is that whatever is inside of the briefcase glows green, and Tobias thinks it elevate his standing.

He told Cyanide after looking inside, “You’re looking at the new king of Freeland.”

Yet, Black Lightning has its secrets and we will have to wait until Season 2 to find out.

What is Tobias’ end game?

It seems that Tobias is out for power, but what exactly does he want? Does he want to rule Freeland? Parts of the U.S.? While Tobias is hellbent on causing havoc and taking down Black Lightning, it doesn’t seem he actually has a goal in mind, which probably makes him all the more dangerous.
