Hidden Remote: So if the potion was successful at the end of the last Shadowhunters episode, is Clace over? Just like that?

Dom Sherwood: Oh look, at the end of the day, a relationship in any form, whether it’s Clary and Jace, or Magnus and Alec, or… a relationship is a relationship and love is love, and there are so many different varieties of love. If it’s family love that Jace has for Alec, or Izzy has for Alec, or Jace has for Izzy, or more than that — romantic love that Alec has for Magnus, or Jace has for Clary — or sort of brotherly love, or love-hate relationships like what Jace has for Simon, and Simon has for Jace. There are so many different forms of it.

“You don’t know what you’re fighting for or how hard you can fight, until you need to.”

I think love as an umbrella term is something that needs to be fought for. I’ve seen it in my life, in real life, and I see it in the story, and I see it in the stories around us. In the people I care about, and with my parents, and my siblings, and our fellow cast here — love is something that needs to be fought for, and without some turbulence every now and then, without some trials and tribulations, you don’t know what you’re fighting for or how hard you can fight, until you need to.

There’s a beautiful phrase (I know all the words, but I know I’m going to mess them up), and it’s something like, ‘You only know how brave you can be when you have to be brave.’ I think it’s the same thing with love. You only know how hard you can fight for love until you have to fight for it. The harder these characters and these relationships get forced apart, the harder we have to work to keep them together, and that’s what we’re going to see moving forward in the season.
