After the shocking conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War left the world turned upside down, the question of how the Avengers are going to respond is up in the air. At the same time, the team will look slightly different come time for Avengers 4.

(SPOILERS AHEAD!)

It’s all over! Thanos has decimated the universe and the Avengers are lying in defeat. They fought to keep the completed Infinity Gauntlet out of Thanos’ hand but it did them no good. Now, half of the team is gone and the world is in a state of despair. All of these developments appear to have irreversibly changed the universe but that may not be the case.

The Avengers aren’t known for taking losses lying down, which means they’re going to hatch a plan to set things right. How they plan to do that is up for debate but Stark’s B.A.R.F. tech will factor into it.

Earlier this year, the Russo Brothers commented on the plot of Avengers 4, hinting at Stark’s B.A.R.F. tech being revisited. They didn’t elaborate any further but the images that leaked online have shown the Avengers back at the Battle of New York, adding evidence to claims of the Binary Augmented Retro-Framing coming back into the fold. However, there are some noticeable differences from the heroes we saw in the first movie in 2012.

Avengers 4 set photos confirm Stark’s B.A.R.F. tech

In the images, Steve Rogers and the Hulk appear identical but Tony Stark has changed. He has blond hair, he’s slightly older, and is in S.H.I.E.L.D. attire. They’re also joined by Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), who never appeared in the original movie but he’s here alongside them, ruling out the B.A.R.F. tech. Of course, there’s another explanation that includes the B.A.R.F tech.

The reason B.A.R.F. could still resurface is that it could become a time-travel device. B.A.R.F. already lets the user see into the past so why not venturing into the past, too? Stark won’t be able to expand the technology on his own but with a little help, he might. The question is, who’ll help him?

Reasonably speaking, the entire world will be behind Tony Stark and the Avengers. Now that the world has been split into two, they’re going to have everyone’s support, including the people who labeled the other Avengers fugitives. Because of that, Tony will have everyone working on a solution to the Thanos problem.

What they’ll come up with is anyone’s guess but from the looks of the Avengers 4 set photos, they’re going to turn B.A.R.F. into a device which lets them travel to alternate dimensions. Or, perhaps the device is a combination of B.A.R.F. and Pym’s shrinking device. It gives the user access to the Quantum Realm, an area outside of the timestream. Janet Van Dyne has been stuck there for some time but she’ll be released in Ant-Man and The Wasp. Therefore, the door to other dimensions could be open.

Whatever happens, the Avengers will have to think out of the box if they want to stop Thanos. He has the completed Infinity Gauntlet in hand so an equally powerful item will be required to counter it. Let’s just hope they can find it before Thanos decides to erase the other half of the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently in theaters everywhere. Avengers 4 opens in theaters on May 8, 2019.
