One character we thought we’d see more of in Avengers: Infinity War (and one we didn’t)

Avengers: Infinity War is here! It has brought us laughs, tears, and surprises. One of those surprises is a character we didn’t think we’d see, and one we didn’t get enough of.

If you’ve yet to see Avengers: Infinity in theaters, turn away now!

Movie trailers are almost always misleading, particularly those for huge movies such as Infinity War, the most anticipated film of the year. So big kudos to Marvel for making us believe we’d see more of the Hulk. As well as shocking us with a character we didn’t expect to ever see again, Red Skull.

There are some cameos we look out for (such as Stan Lee) and some that are pleasantly surprising (Matt Damon in Thor: Ragnarok.) But who ever thought Red Skull would pop up on the Marvel Cinematic Universe again? Skull’s appearance is definitely the most unexpected. In my experience, the reveal of the villain brought out the first loud reaction in the theater (both at the advanced press screening and regular showing on the film’s release date).

Fun fact! Hugo Weaving, who originally played the villain, did not want to return to the MCU. In Infinity War, he is portrayed by Ross Marquand (Aaron on The Walking Dead). Ross proves once again he is the best at impressions.

So what’s Red Skull doing there? It turns out he survived touching the Tesseract when we last saw him in Captain America: The First Avenger. Fans understandably believed he died as he began to disappear, but he was instead transported to Vormir. The Tessearact is the Space Stone, after all, so it makes sense it sent Skull across the universe. Skull is now in Vormir, guarding the Soul Stone.

The question many fans are now asking is — with no Soul Stone to guard, is Red Skull now free? If he is, it probably won’t be for long since Avengers 4 will reverse what Thanos has done. But who knows!

Next: Whose death is permanent in Avengers: Infinity War?

As for the lack of Hulk, it looks like Mark Ruffalo wasn’t kidding when he warned fans about Thanos having a lasting impression on the Hulk. It’s also more screen time for Ruffalo. And we’re not complaining.

Avengers: Infinity War is now in theaters everywhere.
