Westworld Season 3 is officially a go. HBO made the decision just two episodes into the second season.

Westworld fans may have had an extra-long break between seasons compared to most other show fans, but it has certainly been worth it. The second season has performed so well already that two episodes into the season HBO has opted to renew it for a third season.

President of HBO Programming, Casey Bloys, confirmed the decision in a press release, stating, “It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew. From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.

Renewal news hasn’t been that surprising. The first season had 13.1 million viewers per episode on average across all platforms and earned 22 Emmy nominations, of which it won five). In terms of live viewings, the season averaged just over 1.8 million and Season 2 has seen a 5% increase. Most shows see a decrease in the sophomore season.

The first season introduced the futuristic theme park. Westworld Season 2 sees the robots revolt against the humans and create lives for themselves.

As well as positive viewer numbers, the second season has also pushed expectations for women. It’s taken leaps, pushing women out of the sterotypes and giving them concrete storylines. Evan Rachel Woods and Thandie Newton have both been raised for their skills and characters.
