Exclusive: Expedition Unknown coming to Discovery this summer
It’s time to delve into the world of ancient legends with the Discovery Channel in the new summer program Expedition Unknown.
Ever wondered if the Wizard of Oz‘s ruby slippers were real? What about the truths of the long-lost city hidden in the vast jungles of Guatemala? There are ancient legends around the world and it’s time to learn the mystery and truths behind that. That’s just what Josh Gates is doing in Expedition Unknown, which is new to the Discovery Channel this summer.
The first episode will air on May 29 and is the first part of the two-part epic adventure into the South American rainforest. And if that isn’t enough, there’s an After the Hunt special, taking you further in the secrets revealed and the investigation that’s taken place. After that, there are four more episodes airing in subsequent weeks, taking you to six episodes in total.

Joining Gates on the discovery is noted archaeologist Dr. Richard Hansen. In the first episode, they’ll delve into the Guatemalan rainforest in search for the lost city of El Mirador. They have one mission: to find the hidden tombs of the city’s mysterious Maya Snake Kings. Ruins of the city have already been discovered and they show that the city is larger than Los Angeles. Now it’s time to explore the overgrown temples and the Americas’ (potentially) largest pyramid.
