With Jace (as The Owl) locked down in Magnus’ apartment and Clary trapped in Alicante, we’ll see family members take major risks to save them both. So how emotionally prepared should you be? Here are 13 things you need to know!

Shadowhunters season 3 episode 8 is one of the most emotional episodes of the series, and if you are a fan of Clace, Malec, Lightwood sibling relationships, Saia, Laryse (and lots more), you’re going to have a whole lot of feels. And actually, because the episode leaves us with several intense cliffhangers, you’ll likely be processing those feels all the way until the end of episode 10 next week.

13 things to know about Shadowhunters season 3 episode 8…

13 – Luke is going to do everything he can, like Isaiah Mustafa teased last week, to try and get to Clary. He seeks out the help of one person specifically who understands the significance of what happened and the political intricacies / social conflicts that stand in his way of being able to rescue her.

12 – The Owl has access to all of Jace’s knowledge and memories. That knowledge is a weapon for The Owl to verbally attack anyone who threatens the success of his mission. Whether that means calling someone by a nickname (or proper first name), or bringing up old hurtful memories, The Owl is going to use language while trapped in the cage to try and make Magnus, Alec, Izzy, and Simon drop their guard.

11 – After Simon’s “accidental” attack on her disciples last week, Lilith now understands that the Mark of Cain could put a wrench in her plans. In Shadowhunters season 3 episode 8, she will travel to another realm for answers.

10 – Simon and Maia and Jordan will have scenes together (like Alicia teased earlier this week) and will combine their academic, physical and supernatural strengths to investigate more about Lilith. Put into stressful situations, you can imagine that prior built-up anger has an opportunity to be addressed.

9 – Magnus and Alec have a quick chance to connect while they’re working on the plan to help Jace, and we learn the dangers they’re willing to face to help protect their family.

8 – The little Lightwoods are back and they’re going to pull at your heartstrings. It also looks like they’ve been put through weapons training. Unlike in season 2, in “A Heart Of Darkness” we’ll see a bit of interaction between some of the younger Lightwoods an older Lightwoods together in the same scene.

7 – We get another heart-to-heart Laryse moment, and if you had doubts before that sparks could fly between Luke and Maryse, this episode will make you realize that Laryse is a ship that deserves a cruise (right after they help save their children, k?).

6 – Underneath the layers of The Owl, real Jace is incredibly vulnerable. Emotionally, he goes to a place that we’ve never seen him before on the series. He is raw, desperate and very much a victim of psychological torture. Be prepared.

5 – We’re going to see parts of Jace’s subconscious and his psyche, and part of that will reveal just how close of an emotional connection he has with Isabelle (especially as a person who provides comfort and love), something we don’t see often enough on the series.

4 – Shadowhunters season 3 episode 8 has a scene that might just be the most gory and horrific visual we’ve ever had on the show.

3 – Maia’s performance in scenes with Simon and Jordan are absolutely a stand-out and highlight of the episode. We haven’t seen too much of Maia so far in season 3, but we’re hoping this is where her main storyline starts to escalate.

2 – Clary spends most of the episode on trial in Alicante with Gia Penhallow, and though she’s damaged the Soul Sword in the past when touching it, this time around her situation will grow to be much more complex, and with much less self-control.

1 – Step aside, “Parabatai Lost,” this is my new favorite parabatai episode of the series. Alec will need to make difficult decisions quickly, and we see him take on the role of a big brother who’s desperate to protect both Jace and Isabelle as they take a major risk to try and separate Jace from The Owl. There are tears, hugs, and sentimental reminiscing, all of which leaves you speechless in the episode’s final minute.
