On Monday, May 28 on ABC, Becca Kufrin will make her big debut as the new Bachelorette. After being callously dumped and publicly humiliated by Arie Luyendyk Jr. on season 22 of The Bachelor, fans are rooting for Becca to find true love the second time around.

It’s virtually impossible to make it through an entire season of The Bachelor/Bachelorette without learning the outcome, and season 14 of The Bachelorette is no exception. Becca already revealed to People that she’s engaged. If you’re tempted to dig just a bit deeper, you can even find out the identities of her final two men (rumors about the last suitor standing still haven’t been confirmed.)

So, we know that Becca who was heartbroken just a few months ago over her breakup with Arie has moved on. This won’t stop the rabid fans of Bachelor Nation from tuning in to watch the dream dates, hot tub hookups, confrontations, steamy make-out seshes, awkward serenades by unknown musical artists and all the drama that we’ve come to expect from the dating show.

With Becca’s happiness on lockdown, the big question is will she make an engaging (pun intended) and entertaining Bachelorette? There’s no doubt Becca scored the gig because her public humiliation was the most memorable thing about season 22.

ABC continues to capitalize off Becca’s cringe-worthy claim to fame, showing her ripping up a cardboard cutout of Arie in the show’s season 14 promo.

Some producer also had the bright idea of stressing how Becca is an “independent woman” in the teaser. She’s back, and she’s doing it her way. I’m all for female empowerment, but Becca has been engaged twice over the span of a few months which doesn’t exactly scream independent as much as co-dependent.

More from ABC

The trailer is another mea culpa from the network to viewers for their controversial decision to air Arie and Becca’s breakup, a move that many fans found distasteful. ABC is letting us know that Becca is A-okay. After all, what better way is there to get over someone than to get under someone else?

Becca’s stint on season 22 of The Bachelor may have ended with a bang, but viewers seem to forget that most of her time on the show was utterly forgettable. Yes, she got the coveted first one-on-one date with Arie, during which he took her on a Pretty Woman-esque shopping spree. But afterward, she basically disappeared.

As Arie dragged the women to Lake Tahoe, Fort Lauderdale, and Paris, his focus was on crazy Krystal, the barely legal Bekah, single mom Chelsea, Raven 2.0 Tia, quirky Kendall, out of his league Seinne and, of course, the woman who ultimately won Arie’s heart, Lauren B. Arie didn’t even throw a single group date rose Becca’s way.

Their “passion” was reignited in Tuscany, and the rest is “her” story. But if Becca had gotten the boot sooner, would she have been missed by viewers? Would she have even been offered a spot on Bachelor in Paradise much less been a serious contender to become the next Bachelorette?

It can be hard to stand out among so many big personalities, but former Bachelorettes Kaitlyn Bristowe, Rachel Lindsay and JoJo Fletcher were fan faves throughout their respective Bachelor seasons. Lindsay was so popular, ABC couldn’t wait until she was sent packing by Nick Viall during season 21 before announcing she would become the first black Bachelorette.

Compared to the super bland Lauren B. (ya’ll know it’s true), Becca at least has some semblance of a personality, but she’s got a ways to go to achieve the charisma of Bristowe, Lindsay, and Fletcher. Arie’s season produced female suitors who ranged from seemingly ambivalent to psychotic (we’re looking at you, Krystal.) For most of the 12 episodes, Becca landed in the blah zone, just below giddy.

ABC really needs season 14 of The Bachelorette to wow viewers after Arie’s disappointing run. Becca can only coast by on the Arie debacle for so long. Since she’s not competing for attention, hopefully, viewers will get to know Becca as something other than just Arie’s cast-off and see her time in the spotlight as more than a consolation prize.

One thing fans can be sure of, they’re going to hear, “Let’s do the damn thing,” many, many, many times.
