The Expanse opened a new chapter (or book) and the results are rather enticing.

Strangely, “Delta-V” is most reminiscent of Teen Wolf in the sense that, while having full seasons, would often break itself into two mini seasons, each having a specific arc and villain.

In the same way, “Delta-V” feels very much like the beginning of its own mini season, which is fitting considering this is where one of the novels begins. This is a great move, because it adds a fantastic breath of air to the series and opens itself up to some truly exciting possibilities.

Here are some exciting things from “Delta-V”:

The Ring

At the end of the previous episode, we saw the protomolecule that had been on the surface of Venus rise out of the orbit in the form of a giant extraterrestrial ball. In the time between the two episodes, the protomolecule had stretched out to form a giant ring in space a la Stargate: SG1.

The episode proves extremely graphically that any kind of travel through the ring isn’t possible yet, that might change soon.

Mystery Saboteur

More from Syfy

For parts of the episode we follow a young woman on an engineering crew who we see planting a bomb on a ship and taking out her partner after he finds out about it. Who is this woman? What are her goals? Book readers will recognize her, but it’ll be interesting for the uninitiated to piece together who she is.

Voice of the UN: Avasarala

Since Errinwright was implicated in warmongering and Sorrento-Gillis resigned as Secretary General due to being an absolute schmuck, this opened the door for everyone’s favorite diplomat Avasarala to return and basically be the one in charge, which is what should have happened in the first place.

Documentary Crew

After the events of practically the entire series, Holden and his crew on the Rocinante are now trying to take on some semblance of honest work that’s separate from anything to do with the protomolecule, but they’re also being sued now by the Martians for stealing the Roci in the first place.

In exchange for paying their legal bills in that matter, Holden has let a documentary crew onto the ship to get the full story of them as minor celebrities in the universe.

Ghost Miller

The end of the episode sees Holden stepping into his quarters and seeing none other than Joe Miller, who we last saw sacrificing himself to stop the protomolecule on Eros from crashing into Earth.

As we all know, Eros has now become the ring, which many agree is doing unprecedented things which could very well include bringing back those that were destroyed by the protomolecule on Eros.

Who is the mystery girl? Why or how is Miller back? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
