5 TV shows that should be revived to replace Roseanne
With Roseanne gone, here are five shows that ABC could revive to retain its significant fan base.
On May 29, ABC made the right decision to cancel its hugely popular Roseanne revival after star Roseanne Barr made a racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a woman who served as President Obama’s Senior Advisor. In the direct aftermath of the show’s shocking cancellation, there’s been a lot of discussion about how ABC will compensate for the series’ absence.
As part of the conversation, American Gods co-creator Bryan Fuller offered a novel solution; revive some other old ABC shows. Namely, his much loved, short-lived 2008-09 supernatural dramedy Pushing Daisies. Sadly, while a Pushing Daisies revival would definitely like critics in the show’s cult audience, the fact that its second season finale only brought in 2.23 million viewers means that it’s unlikely to be called forth from its cave.
Still, the idea of replacing Roseanne with the revival of another popular TV show isn’t a bad idea. NBC, CBS and, ABC have found recent success reviving Will & Grace, MacGyver, and American Idol. Moreover, the 2018-19 TV season will see the debut of revivals/reboots of classic shows like Murphy Brown, Magnum P.I. and Charmed.
To help the network make up for the potential $45 million in ad revenue it’s going to lose by canceling Roseanne, here are five TV shows ABC should revive.
