How did FX’s Pose add Trump into the mix?
By Sandy C.
Pose is set in the late 1980s, the rise of the luxury Trump-era. Just how did creator Ryan Murphy include the business mogul-turned president in the series?
The official synopsis from FX’s Pose is: “Set in the 1980s, Pose is a dance musical that explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the ball culture world, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe and the downtown social and literary scene.”
Is Trump mentioned or is he portrayed in the series? Spoilers ahead if you missed the premiere of Pose!
Originally, Murphy planned to include Donald Trump as a character in his series. Ultimately, however, he decided against it. But Trump is still mentioned and his presence plays an important part of the series, which the pilot episode has only just introduced. How so? The connection is made with Evan Peters’ character, Stan.

Instead of having an actor play Trump, Murphy decided to cast James Van Der Beek as one of the bosses at Trump Tower. He hires Stan as a junior executive, beginning the interview with asking Stan to be honest about what Stan wants out of this job. Stan tells his new boss he wants to be just like him, to have wealth and power.
Stan shares two children with his wife Patty (Kate Mara), but after leaving the office, he picks up Angel (Indya Moore), a transgender streetwalker. Stan’s had an eye on her for a while and finally decides to stop by.
The two seem to have an instant connection. Even though Angel tries to see Stan at work and he rejects her, Stan goes to find her later. His little secret can’t stay a secret forever, though.
