Has Supergirl solved their Worldkiller problem for good? Check out our recap of Not Kansas.

“Not Kansas” picks up right where last week’s Supergirl left off. After a brief battle with Reign, Lena is able to separate the Worldkiller from Sam. It wasn’t as climactic as I was expecting since they got it out of the way right at the beginning of the episode.

Now that Kara knows her mom is alive, she wants to spend more time with her and she makes that decision knowing that Sam has been saved. She even invites Mon-El to go with her. After a montage of a going away party, she’s back in Argo City. I wonder how she explained going away to those who know her just as Kara. Will Lena not thinks it’s suspicious that Kara and Supergirl happened to leave at the same exact time?

James goes out as Guardian and he asks Winn if he thinks Kara will come back. Just when the two get to talking, James has to go save a cop. Alex is at J’onn’s place and M’yrnn announces that it is time for him to pass his memories on to J’onn soon. Alex gets a call that sends her and J’onn back to the DEO and that’s when we get our secondary storyline of DEO guns being on the street.

Even though Sam was saved, there was this lingering suspicion since it happened so quickly. The Dark Kryptonion is in Argo City and debris flies towards Kara and Mon-El and they see a shadowy figure walking away. Kara later accuses someone of being the person in the gray hooded robe, but the woman denies it.

James and J’onn dive into investigating how the DEO-style rifle ended up on the street. This episode is clearly touching on the constant conversation about gun control. Lena and James have differing opinions, but they’re willing to hear each other out. Back at the DEO, though, it’s all hands on deck for this mystery. The recent use of James/Guardian has been a great fit for the show. They’ve had a nice balance of him being at Catco and being Guardian.

Arthur Willis is identified as the gunman and he’s a disgruntled ex-employee at a big law firm in town. J’onn confronts him without being armed and the scene lasts fairly long, but it serves the purpose of sending the message that civilians don’t need assault rifles for anything.

Mon-El springs his feelings on Kara as she’s struggling to be on Argo City and telling him how glad she is that he’s with him. I’m not thrilled that it looks like the two of them will end up back together because I wasn’t super fond of them in the first place. However, I will admit that as a person, Mon-El has grown a lot since the two were first together. So maybe things will be a bit different this time.

Their moment is also interrupted by a robot coming after them and they see the woman who Kara confronted earlier. The woman says that “nothing is as it seems,” which was pretty much exactly what I thought when Sam was saved from Reign.

J’onn makes the big decision to get rid of their lethal weapons and have Winn introduce new, non-lethal options instead. This doesn’t get to play out beyond people being disappointed in this episode, but I’m looking forward to Winn being impressed with himself for whatever weapons he comes up with for the DEO. It is quite fun when he geeks out about the things he makes.

Next: Legion season 2, episode 9 recap

To close out the episode, J’onn is ready for M’yrnn to transfer his memories to him. Alex looks into adopting a child. Lena poaches Eve from Catco to work with her on making more of the black rock that Supergirl took from Argo City. Sam has an episode and we then see that Kara and Mon-El’s ship is gone and the symbol from Reign’s suit is burning on the ground.

We’re closing in on the finale and it looks like the Worldkillers haven’t completely gone away. With two episodes left, I’m betting that we’ll see even more of the Dark Kryptonian than we really have before. She has some plan in the works and we’ve only seen the beginning of it.

Supergirl airs on The CW on Mondays at 8pm EST.
