Nashville Season 6, Episode 12 sees Deacon’s father come to town. The big question is whether he’ll ever forgive the man. Meanwhile, Alannah deals with Brad.

What happens when your past comes back to haunt you? Deacon learns that sometimes you need to move on from the horrors of the past and teenagers can have the best advice. Meanwhile in Nashville, Alannah learns that standing up for your rights and going against the grain when it comes to harrassment can lead to career difficulties and it’s a story that definitely needs telling at this current time.

While all this goes on, Scarlet and Sean get closer, but not in the way that you would initially expect–and I really hope that doesn’t happen, either! This week, we get to see him open up more as she becomes the only person who can help when he starts spiraling.

Alannah struggles with Brad

More from Drama

Nashville opens Alannah’s storyline with her officially coming onboard at Shiny New Records and discussing the next steps. The Lumineres are on tour and Brad wants her to open for them to get the buzz around her to then give her the chance to headline her own tour. It all sounds great and it’s not long before Brad manages to set something up.

After drinks one night, Alannah feels uncomfortable and makes it clear to Brad that she just wants a professional relationship. He’s not interested in his advances or harrassment. However, shortly after that the meeting with the Lumineres is canceled because the tour is off. Alannah knows that this is because she chose to stand up to Brad.

It’s a topic of discussion right now. There are a lot of questions why women don’t stand up against men in the entertainment industry with the current #MeToo climate. Terry Crews recently spoke out about this. He’s faced sexual harrassment and shared that he couldn’t speak out because it would have been career suicide if he did. This is the storyline Nashville is running with for Alannah. But how far will she take it and is she willing to speak out about Brad’s treatment?

Scarlet gets closer to Sean

As for Scarlet and Sean, she’s able to get him another gig. This time he wants her to sing with him since he knows that she’s hiding, too. However, Scarlet doesn’t want to get on the stage and shares that she’s invited his wife along to the night. Sean isn’t happy about that and decides to dedicate his performance to Scarlet, before publically suggesting she gets up on the stage to sing.

Sean’s wife is understandably upset, seeing Scarlet as the woman pushing her out. However, Scarlet hears all about the way Sean acted at home due to his PTSD and encourages Sean to return to his wife. While there, Sean finds out that one of his colleagues killed himself; something Sean believes was a better soldier than him.

After spiraling, Sean locks himself in the bathroom with a gun, so all his wife can do is call Scarlet. Scarlet is able to talk Sean out of this downward spiral, reminding him that the breeze on his face feels good and that means there are good things in the world. It’s enough to help get Sean out and Scarlet later sees him asleep with his son. There’s hope for this veteran yet.

Deacon sees his dad

Nashville mostly focuses on Deacon, who’s dad has turned up. Of course, Deacon immediately thinks the man is here for money, since he’s not seen his dad in 30 years. In a series of flashbacks, we see how his dad was an abusive drunk and Deacon threatened him out of the house with a rifle. That was the last Deacon had seen of him.

Deacon’s dad is out of money and homeless, but came to Nashville to see his granddaughters. However, Deacon wants nothing to do with his dad and makes it clear to Maddi, Daphne, and Scarlet that this isn’t a man he wants in their lives. Maddi brings up the time she emancipated from her parents and shares that she couldn’t imagine not speaking to them now, but Deacon admits that he just can’t forgive his dad yet.

Maddi decides to go to the motel her grandfather is staying at and talks to him. She invites him to Highway 65, giving father and son a chance to talk. It’s semi positive, with Deacon inviting his father into the house to stay with the family.

In the final moments, Avery (who has been struggling with Gunnar over his relationship with Alannah) listens to Alannah’s complaints about Brad. There’s little that Avery can do, so the two start to makeout on the couch, just as Juliette walks in free from the cult tired, angry, and upset.
