The Mortal Kombat reboot will introduce Cole Turner. Will Christopher Lambert reprise his old role? Will a time jump tie Raiden to his younger self?

The Mortal Kombat movie reboot has exclusive news coming over from The Hash Tag Show. The movie’s characters’ details have been revealed. Also, a brand new character by the name of Cole Turner will be making his debut and touted “the audience surrogate for the film”. His family is also involved.

With Turner and family in tow, could a serious story arc revolve around Cole? If his sister-in-law considers him a bad father, could he prove himself worthy as a hero of Earth Realm?

The description of Turner is as follows:

More from Movies

"Lead Male. 30s. A brand new character to the MK franchise. Cole is a struggling and widowed boxer who cares more about his young daughter than anything. He is incredibly determined and refuses to quit in the face of fantastical adversity."

Other character details have also been confirmed, some dating back as far as the original arcade coin-ops. The Hash Tag Show’s site gives details of each one, but iconic characters were left off the list, including favorites such as Scorpion and Sub Zero. There were even talks of an R-rating.

Also, what of Shao Kahn and Goro? Will there be all new big bosses or will they reboot the nostalgia-filled encounters?

Then there’s the god of Earth Realm, Raiden (Rayden), which was played by Christopher Lambert in 1995. A couple of years ago, he was in talks to reprise the role as the lightning god in the Mortal Kombat reboot, according to Loaded. In fact, he spoke of inter-dimensional time travel in this flick.

"“They have a great idea for the third one,” he said. “It will be very different. We are going to be travelling through time but in a very special way. So imagine characters having a battle in the middle of London and then whoosh, you smash through a window and find yourself on the hood of a New York cab.”"

This is reminiscent of the Mortal Kombat 3 game where players could knock each other onto other maps. Could it be a nod in that direction?

For some reason, Raiden is 14-years-old in this reboot. Does this give Lambert’s remark about a time jump some integrity?

It was back in 1995 the original live-action Mortal Kombat movie made its debut. It was during an era where video game to movie adaptions were a thing. Some were cringe-worthy at best, in my opinion.

Fans can even be reminded of the famous techno soundtrack that followed. If you want a serious earworm and some heart thumping music, the Mortal Kombat soundtrack is full of beats.
