The music of ABBA is back in the musical film, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Let’s take a look at the five best songs from the movie.

The songs of ABBA are back in the spotlight thanks to the release of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. The film is the sequel to the 2008 movie, Mamma Mia, which was a smash hit at the box office, grossing over $600 million.

The sequel picks up five years after the events in Mamma Mia as Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is running the villa that was previously run by her mother Donna (Meryl Streep), who died the year before. Despite being pregnant with Sky’s (Dominic Cooper) child, Sophie is unsure if she can raise a daughter without Donna. The movie is also a prequel as the audience sees how a young Donna (Lily James) tries to figure out the identity of Sophie’s father.

The strength of the Mamma Mia! franchise is the music from ABBA. The Swedish group is one of the most successful groups of all-time, having sold hundreds of millions of records. The sequel will have its fair share of ABBA hits on the soundtrack. What are the top songs from Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again? Here are the five best.

“Dancing Queen”

If you have ever been to a school dance or wedding, I would bet my life that the DJ played “Dancing Queen.” It’s such a happy, and upbeat song that it’s impossible to be in a bad mood when the catchy tune comes on. Even if you say you don’t like this song, if someone says, “You can dance,” your instincts will ttake overand respond with “You can jive.”

“Fernando”

One of the biggest additions to the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again cast was Cher. Cher is a legend, plain and simple. With over over 100 million records sold as well as well as an Oscar to her name, Cher is one of the most successful artists of all-time. She continues to find success in the charts as her rendition of “Fernando” with Andy Garcia is climbing the US Adult Contemporary charts.

“Warterloo”

If “Waterloo” comes on, expect to clap your hands because the beat is addicting. The song’s meaning describes a woman surrendering her love to a man, which is a theme in the movie. The title “Waterloo” is in reference to Napoleon’s surrender at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

“I Kissed The Teacher”

“I Kissed The Teacher” is solid, but it will be remembered in the movie due to the electric performance from Lily James. The 29-year-old is known for her roles in Downton Abbey, Cinderella, and Baby Driver. James has already earned rave reviews for her performance in this sequel as CNN described her as a “gust of fresh air” who gave an “enormously appealing performance.”

“Mamma Mia”

It wouldn’t be a Mamma Mia movie without the song, “Mamma Mia.” It’s the heart of the movie and most memorable song from the soundtrack. The use of the marimba and the famous “tick tock” rhythm makes this a highly recognizable song. It’s an instant “turn the volume up” song.
