SYFY is the official new home for Harry Potter movie marathons, and they celebrated at San Diego Comic-Con by throwing a fan party to rival the Yule Ball!

SYFY’s San Diego Comic-Con motto: “It’s a fan thing”, set out to put fans first all weekend. Aside from their anticipated panels, SYFY made a lot of noise in the Gaslamp District with their Karaoke Bus, Bingo Trolley, Drumline and Human Claw. SDCC quickly becomes a full-out block party every year thanks to SYFY, and the fun doesn’t stop when the convention center closes.

This year, SYFY brought two fan parties to SDCC. Friday night was a full-out dance party, but on Saturday, they celebrated being the “New Home of Harry Potter” by turning The New Children’s Museum into a Harry Potter fan’s dream party.

Decorated with house banners and Hogwarts-themed decor, the SYFY Harry Potter Fan Party kept fans entertained with a live band and video montages of clips from Harry Potter films throughout the event. Cosplayers dressed as fan-favorite HP characters were celebs of the night, and non-cosplaying attendees could still show off their Hogwarts house colors thanks to a free t-shirt booth inside.

Fans could interact with the event by signing the Muggle Wall and writing what Harry Potter has meant to them. Throughout the night, heartfelt messages filled the wall, and guests enjoyed reading what others write just as much as sharing their own personal story and inspirations.

Party-goers were treated to British chips wrapped in Daily Prophet paper cones and cake pops designed to look like golden snitches — and lots of ale of course. There was also an interactive photo booth where you could use your wand and the lumos spell to create a magical swirling lights effect photo with your HP-loving friends!

SYFY has already started airing the Harry Potter movies, and in honor of Harry Potter’s birthday on July 31st, they played the first film late last night so that the stroke of midnight in the movie matched real-time! How cool is that?! We’re looking forward to many more Harry Potter marathons on SYFY and be sure to follow them on Twitter for the latest news and updates!
