MTV announces a return for the beloved series The Hills
By Aedan Juvet
The Hills is coming back to MTV eight years after the popular reality series concluded and here’s everything we know so far.
We had initially shared the news that a special announcement was coming during the 2018 VMA’s, but the rumors were officially put to rest. The cast, which includes Audrina Patridge, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, Stephanie Pratt, Justin Bobby and Jason Wahler, were all in attendance at the award show, hinting at a Hills related event later shown during the commercial break.
A teaser debuted with a coffee-house style cover of the series theme song “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield and showcased each of the breathtaking views through the wonderful city of Los Angeles. As the short teaser concluded, one line could be heard from Stephanie stating “It’s like we’re all growing up. It’s weird.” In a very unique Stephanie-ism.
To show the change of pace, the series won’t just be another chapter of The Hills, as it’s been rebranded The Hills: New Beginnings. The title is a definitive nod to the now 30-somethings that have almost (maybe) worked through their young Hollywood days and now balance family transitions and keeping up with that over the top LA lifestyle.

In addition to the teaser, a report from US Weekly states that fan favorite Whitney Port is set to return, along with three new cast members including a celebrity and two bloggers. This obviously means that original lead and queen of LA, Lauren Conrad won’t necessarily be back among the group yet. Her Instagram recently alluded to filming something in Laguna Beach aimed for a possible spring 2019 release.
Kristin Cavallari was also absent from the cast or any announcement. This is more than likely due to her contract with E!, where her current series Very Cavallari airs with her life and career as the primary focus.
For now, we’ll just have to wait as more is announced from MTV, but there’s something worth celebrating at the return of reality TV royalty. It’s been a long enough wait for The Hills come back, so we’ll take it in any capacity we can at this point!
