Julie Chen signed off the latest Big Brother 20 episode in a unique fashion. It now has social media buzzing about what she said and why she decided to say it like that.

Following the second Eviction Ceremony of the night (spoilers ahead), host Julie Chen signed off the September 13 episode in a fashion that has fans talking. Chen stated that “From outside the BB house with B-Rent [Brett], I’m Julie Chen Moonves, good night.” This is noteworthy due to the negative press her husband has been receiving and it may have been really surprising to viewers watching Episode 35 of Big Brother 20. Some might even say it was bold.

Recapping the controversy

As previously reported by Inside the BB House, Leslie Moonves (Julie Chen’s husband) has been accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault by a number of women. It led to CBS ousting him from his role as CEO and chairman of the network. It has also led to a lot of negative publicity for Chen, who has stood by her husband, in the past, with very public statements.

Why was Julie Chen’s comment on Big Brother 20 noteworthy?

Typically, at the close of a “live” episode of the show, the host simply signs off by saying “I’m Julie Chen.” Adding her second last name was clearly a statement, which has been left up to the viewers when it comes to opinions of its intent. It could be that she is simply offering support to her husband and letting everyone know that she will continue standing by him. It could also be that she is making a statement to the network that she isn’t going anywhere, no matter what controversy might be attached to Leslie Moonves.

A post on Twitter was made by user Realvegas4sure, who often relays Big Brother 20 spoilers and other pieces of information from the staff of the reality competition show. This person usually has a lot of insight and likely works very closely with the show. They posted that, “Wish there could be more to it. She did not tell production she would do that. But, producers do not care and joked in the control room that they’ll take the extra publicity from the move.”
