Fans are gaga over Lady Gaga’s cry in Shallow, from her and Bradley Cooper’s film A Star Is Born. What about her majestic wail makes it so impactful?

Just to be clear, we’re talking about Lady Gaga’s emotion-packed “ha-ah-ah-ah haaa-ah-ah-ah, haaawaah, ha-ah-ah-aaah!” We first heard it in the trailer for A Star Is Born and were instantly captivated by it. Fans jumped online to search for the song online, many of them even making their own videos only including Gaga’s wail and words. What is this magical song? Why are we tortured with only a snippet of it? Well, the full song, “Shallow,” has since been released, dropping earlier last week and everyone is in love!

Sure, the best part of the song is Gaga’s cry, but having the complete tune is still a gift to us all. “Shallow” is stuck in our heads and we don’t want it out. Many of us have even attempted this howl, to no avail, but it’s fun to try, anyway.

Why does this shout give us chills every single time? What makes “ha-ah-ah-ah haaa-ah-ah-ah, haaawaah, ha-ah-ah-aaah!” so powerful?

If this tweet is you, you’re not alone. That was pretty much all of us even before the full song dropped on September 27.

More from Movies

Lady Gaga in “Shallow” reaches inside and grabs our souls. Why? Because it’s raw emotion, guys! Gaga is singing from her spirit, her own pain, memories, and is full of emotion. And if you love the song, you’ll love it even more when you hear it in the movie.

We had the honor to screen A Star Is Born last week and can say you’ll love “Shallow” so much more in theaters. Not only is the sound blasting in the room, I’m sure you’ve played the song full volume in your car, but the built-up to that moment, the setting, and seeing Ally (Lady Gaga) let her guard down to release all her feelings into that cry really add to the experience. It’s magical.

After Ally shares “Shallow” with the world, singing it alongside Jackson (Bradley Cooper), her career as a singer blossoms. But the more successful Ally becomes, the more her relationship with Jackson suffers. Even if you have seen the original film of A Star Is Born, Gaga and Cooper’s take on it feels brand-new. It’s a tragic, romantic fairy tale of pure, fearless love.
